Stefan & Marc in New York City part two
Part two of our fantastic trip to New York. We bought a New York Pass for one day to visit some tourist attractions that charge entrance fees. With the pass we you sometimes can cut the line, like when we went to the Empire State Building. We bought the ticket at the news agents inside instead of queueing up outside. To bypass the long security check line, we went to see the New York Skyride, which is narrated by Kevin Bacon. Though it was cheesy sometimes, it was a more pleasurable wait than standing around the corner of the ESB, but never would have spent 23 dollars for if it weren’t for the pass. The view from the ESB observation deck was stunning.
Via Grand Central station and a view of the Chrysler Building we took the subway to the Guggenheim Museum. Unfortunately they were just changing expositions and the famous building was being renovated on the outside, so kind of a waste of time. The bus took us further down to Central Park Zoo. Seeing skyscrapers in the background while you are watching the sea lions being fed was quite unusual. The penguins were adorable, so were the puffins.
A walk along the southside of Central Park, to Columbus Circle and Trump Tower brought us to the American Museum of Natural History AMNH. We specifically had interest in the dinosaur skeletons, as one knows them from movies and television.
Rockefeller Center with the statue of Prometheus was high on my to see list, as it reminds of the opening of Conan O’Brien.
The New York Pass gave us the opportunity to go to Madame Tussauds in the evening after all the museums had closed. Of course we took pictures of our favoourites, like Jennifer Aniston, Bette Midler and Andy Warhol.
After dinner, we took the Staten Island Ferry, for photo opportunities and to watch the Statue of Liberty from a nice distance (it was close enough in our busy schedule).
Last day. My feet were killing me from the previous days. I still wanted to buy some books, so we went to a couple of second hand stores near 14th Street/ Union Square and a Barnes & Noble. Stefan finally tried some hotdogs.
We ended our trip with a stroll through Central Park: Sheep Meadow, Literary Walk and Bethesda Terrace. The sun was shining. We were sorry to leave.
The pink circles show our route through New York and it’s many attractions.
