In addition to Ben Stiller, the cast will be rounded out by many from the original film as well as several new characters from history. from CHINANTLA to New York by asuncion tapia

“From CHINANTLA to New York”
At Queens Museum of Art, New York.
Tapia is deeply inspired by his hometown of Chinantla. The name of the town is derived from the Nauatl words CHINAMITL=cornfields and TLA=abundance; meaning “where the corn fences are in abundance”. Located in the southeast of Puebla. Chinantla was founded by the Nauatl, Popoloca and Mixteco groups. These indigenous groups were gathered together by Fray Toribio de Guzman. Some of Chinantla’s custom are expressed through dance accompanied by instruments such as drums and flutes. DANCE OF THE TECUANIS is one of the most symbolic of these dances, representing the triumph of hunting the tiger or wolf, as they lay in wait for Chinantecos’s domestic animals. Today this dance is still alive after many generations and has traveled to many different territories.

This work represents thirteen of forty pieces from the series COLORFUL LAND WHERE CORNFIELDS ABOUND and is composed of acrylics, oil, watercolor and photography. Its use of color, geometric shapes and Nahuatl symbols represent Tapia’s personal image of the world in which he lives and the shape of his homeland, where the cornfields abound… C H I N A N T L A.
